Kyle’s approach

Hi, I’m Kyle — a relational psychotherapist offering individual therapy.

I believe healing is a deeply personal journey, one that often begins when we feel lost in a dark wood, unsure of the way forward. In many ways, I see my role as being like a companion and support in that place — accompanying you, listening closely, and walking alongside you as you explore your experiences in a safe, compassionate, and collaborative manner.

At the heart of my work is a belief in each person’s capacity for meaningful and lasting change by way of increased self-awareness, emotional understanding, and deeper relationships with ones self, and others. Moreover, this belief is underpinned by an appreciation for the interwoven nature of our lives with the human and more-than-human world.

My practice and style of therapy are well suited to support individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma (including PTSD and complex PTSD), attachment challenges, and questions of self and identity. Together, we may explore how your family of origin, early development, and social and cultural context have shaped your ways of coping, relating to and with yourself and others, and work toward developing new ways of being and becoming.

My therapeutic approach is informed by attachment theory, psychodynamic perspectives, interpersonal neurobiology, and experiential thearpies, as well as trauma-informed frameworks. I focus on working holistically, to support you in the different expressions of your experience - emotionally, cognitively, relationally, and somatically.

I am also inspired by, and at times when relevant draw from, ecological and soul-centric models of human development, particularly Bill Plotkin’s work on human wholeness. His orientation — along with mythology, depth psychology, and explorations of war and violence — all have influenced the way I understand suffering, resilience, and the search for meaning, in the human experience. I hold a strong interest in the relationship between nature and the human psyche, and the ways healing can unfold not only in therapeutic relationship, but also in and with the wilderness.

In conjunction with my professional training and research, my own experience of therapy has profoundly shaped my approach, reinforcing my belief in the value of investing in one’s own healing and the transformative potential of psychotherapy.

When not practicing or seeing clients, I enjoy hiking, exercising, fly fishing, reading, spending time outdoors, and engaging as a practitioner in a school of Tibetan Buddhism and Meditation, all as ways of restoring balance, engaging in reflection, and returning to what it means to be a human in this life, on this precious Earth.
